Thailand Mission Trip Day 1

Morale is high. God is very gracious to grant us a safe journey with little obstacles. We checked in at the airport smoothly, As we are typing, the whole team is busy with their individual programs such as the Children’s Program, the English program, the following day’s devotion for the cell group, the laundry and the expenses. Practically every square feet of the first floor is bustling with activity. It seems like it’s going to be an activity-packed trip. In advance, we would really like to express our deepest appreciation thanks and appreciation to Pastor Eng Kiat and Aunty Anong for their hospitality and for putting us up, all 21 of us, in their home for the next six days.

We were warmly received by Pastor Eng Kiat at the airport. There was definitely no mistaking that warm smile and the moustache. Our journey on the vans was equally smooth and we arrived at our first stop, McDonald’s, Thailand version. Needless to say, we were already famished. I think many of us found it fascinating to discover that pork burgers exist here and plum sauce for the nuggets. We will never have that in Singapore that’s for sure. After finishing off our meal with the can-only-be-found-in-Thailand Oishi green tea to quench our thirst from the extremely hot McSpicy burgers, we were off to Pastor Eng Kiat’s home. If there’s one important thing that we can glean from Pastor Eng Kiat’s first briefing and sharing, that would be the purpose of the whole trip. Our purpose here would be to minister to others and in turn to be ministered ourselves.

We made our way down to Tesco Lotus, squeezed on a mini-truck, locally known as a song thaew, entertaining ourselves by singing songs from our childhood days. The cool breeze in our faces was an exhilarating feeling.  I think we were impressed and delighted to discover that the place was like a Giant hyper-mart and had all our needs under one large roof, bonding through the times spent shopping and browsing through the huge variety of items.

Upon reaching back to headquarters, after a time of worship led by Enyong with his superb guitar skills, Aunty Carol shared with us her vision of a watering can with a spout being poured out upon this land, that we are the water. Though our stay is temporary (since the water is in the can) but nevertheless we will do what we came for. However, in order to do so, we in turn had to be soaked first. It was really meaningful when Aunty Carol shared about her own experience soaking in God’s presence and led us through the process itself followed by a quick sharing.

That about wraps up the day’s experience. Morale is still high though energy may be on the low side, after all, it is 12.30 am Singapore time and many of us have yet to shower. (21 people and 3 shower facilities. Hmm…. how long will it take?) It is my hope that more trippers will come forward and share their personal experiences and encounters with you, the audience. It won’t be fair if the mission trip’s account is narrated from just a few persons’ point of view. So do look forward to more entries on this blog!

Sincerely from your first time reporters,

Extended Worship this Sunday, 28th November 2010

Hellos all,

Let's all come together for a time of worship, give thanks and sing praises of how good God has been for us for 2010, we're 6 weeks towards the end of the year and it'll be good to just start reflecting on who He is in our lives :D

Let's lift His name on high and enjoy His good presence, corporately and allow Him to speak to us!

Don't run out for breakfast cause it is all good and provided (we have a good God) and to prevent excess leftovers (which will either end up in the bins or become someone's breakfast, lunch and dinner), so come hungry (literally and with a heart of expectance!) and munch up all the food!

New Bible Series - Philippians

Hi Young Adults, we'll be starting on a new bible series on the book of Philippians coming this Sunday (14th Nov). It is quite amazing how Paul (who wrote the book), despite of his imprisonment, still manages to be still delightful and how he manages to express his praise, confidence and rejoicing.

So let's unearth the secrets of his joy in the book and the message behind the book in the coming Sundays to come, see you there :)

"I thank my God every time I remember you.
In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy" ...

Thots on Supernatural Way of Royalty

At a Singapore Kindness Youth Forum last week, the 150 students who attended were posed this question - "Are grades or graciousness more important?" Through a show of hands, most of the student participants felt that grades were more important than graciousness.
How can we not compromise our Christian core value while being in the culture of this world? In Daniel 1:8, Daniel made up his mind not to defile himself with the king's choice food or wine, and he sought permission from King Nebuchadnezzar's official. And in the next verse, we read that God grants Daniel favour. Do we get this? Daniel knew what are the attributes as a child of God, and the son of the most high King, As a true royalty, he has his standard and his external environment does not affect his core value.
It says in 1 Peter 2:9 that "you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. In another words, Peter is saying 'YOU ARE' so that 'YOU MAY', it is so easy in our society to perform because there is a lot of pressure to perform, and often time, we haven't discover who we are, and we end up doing.

How can we be the kind of people who can hold on to our Christian core value - honour, integrity, kindness, goodness, and all the fruit of the Spirit, and still honour the pre-believers around us? We need to pray for wisdom like Daniel, wisdom to hold on to our core value, to stay pure and still not dishonour our non-Christian friends.
We are called to be sons and daughters of the King. The favour of God will help us to bridge all gaps, and does what we can't do, so that the kingdom of this world will become the Kingdom of Heaven.
Uncle Henry
Bill Johnson, "Royalty is my identity. Servanthood is my assignment. Intimacy with God is my life source."
